The weekend saw Mark Boman and Ross Emerton venture to Hervey Bay to fight on Craig Glovers promotion while Brodie Smith and Judd Cornwell headed south to Melbourne to fight on Joe Naders Powerplay 6 show.
The Hervey Bay show was first on Saturday night. On a choc a block full 24 fight card the boys had some mixed fortunes.
Ross was first tking on a 2 time Australian Boxing champ. Ross, a former boxer himself, forgot his old ways and proceeded to chop away at the his opponeents legs or move through and tie him up in the grapple.
The tactics worked well with the towel being thrown in during the second round after to 8 counts from leg kicks!
Mark Boman was up next against SCTBC's Matt Jackson. It was Bomans first fight back in 2 years and he wasted no time in taking it up to Matt. He oushed forward in the first ound landing some heavy rib kicks and scoring well in the grapple.
The second saw Matty fire up and come out charging, countering well with heavy right leg kicks. The grapple again was a torrid affair with Matt choosing to work to the thighs while Boman scored with some string round knees to the body.
The third again started fast and furious with Matt coming home strong and Marks absence from the ring taking its toll. Referee Justin Gibbons gave Mark a standing 8 count for turning his back which gave Matt a well deserved win in what was one of the fights of the night!
Sunday saw Judd and Brodie step in the ring at Moonee Valley Race Course. Judd was up against the man hailed as the next Zambidis, Greeces Vasilis Kakarikos. Vasilis came in to the fight with 150 fights to Judds 9. After a slow and even first round Vasilis landed a ripper of a body shot that dropped Judd in the second. He made the count and came back to the corner. Mark Pease instructed him to kick for the legs more and these tactics worked, with Judd doing enough to pinch the win in what was a very close fight!
Brodie was up against Victorias next big thing in Joel Fisher. In what was a slower paced fight with both guys not really getting out of first gear, Joel's strength in the grapple proved to be the difference taking a points win.
